Michael Le Guellec - PHOTOGRAPHER / FINE ART PRINTER

Artist's Statement

Nature and music have always been at the core of Michael’s creative being. Music dominated his interest in the 1980’s and 1990’s and led into a career as a professional jazz/rock drummer in Los Angeles. Michael also tested the waters of entrepreneurial America and started a career as a talented futures and stock trader. In the process he inadvertently took several companies public and was hired as their consultant. Two years later, Michael created Corporate Alliance Network LLC, an Investor Relations firm that publicly traded companies in North America. Photography was a hobby at the time, and he always took time during the myriad business trips to take multi-day photo treks in the seclusion of the nearest forest, desert, or ocean. At times his hobby translated into a corporate photo shoot for company publications. It wasn’t long before he realized a sense of fulfillment through photography alone. His passion for creating images for himself and others left no room for the corporate rat race.

While visiting Montana in 2000, Michael met National Geographic photographers Rick Sammon and Darrell Guillion. They soon became his mentors and enabled Michael to realize his dream of being a professional photographer. Printing his images himself became an obsession in pursuit of perfection, which completed the circle of having total artistic control.

While on a guided fishing trip a few months later in Dunsmuir, CA he unexpectedly and immediately found home…the foothills of Mt. Shasta. He relocated his family to Dunsmuir and took a job as a photo editor for The Mt. Shasta Herald and is credited for converting the paper’s 35mm film-based imagery to a digital photography format. Michael spent the next two years as a reporter, staff photographer, and photo editor while developing his craft as a fine art photographer and printer.

In 2007 Michael connected with the creative talents of Nickki Lee Hill, a professional Fine Art photographer and Graphic designer.  Together, they formed Studio Baconthorp, a center dedicated to exploring the limitless creativity of photography, Fine Art Imagery and printing.

Michael now explores the artistic approach of portraiture even further with the aid of his lovely wife Mishelle.

“My photography allows me to connect with people, nature, places and subjects in a way that would otherwise be impossible. Fine Art Printing provides me the opportunity and challenge of redefining limits and paradigms. It’s a rare and honorable way that actually allows me to become part of the artist’s interpretation: together we seek perfection.”

“I’m living the dream of having my creativity fulfilled and challenged everyday and know exactly where I belong – creating images and helping artists translate their art into imagery to share with others.”
